The Clockwork Ball in the News... So, a few days ago mephistopholina and I were interviewed about the upcoming Clockwork Ball by a reporter from the Chapel Hill News, and he's planning on being at the event to report on it, too. I'm really curious to see what he writes about it. | | Sunday, July 13th, 2008 | | 7:26 pm |
The Invasion was a grand success... The Clockwork Cabaret went to Tarboro, NC and much rejoicing was had by all! It was a lot of fun... people enjoyed our 'Fake History Walking Tour', we took turns riding on and pedaling the pedicab, the locals seemed fascinated by our crew of dapper looking ladies & gentlemen, we played lots of music, and we had the largest group of dancers for the World Famous 'Interpretive Whale Dance' that we have ever had.
I did have a slight error in my calculations and did cause a large number of the town's children to be soaked in the reflecting pond during the boat races, but they all seemed to be having fun and their parents weren't upset, most were actually surprised that it hadn't happened sooner.
Now, the townsfolk want to have their own steampunk/neo-victorian ball, and a couple people told me that they would like to make the town of Tarboro, a steampunk town. It definitely has the setting with one of the largest historic districts I've ever seen (I think it's a stop on the Victorian Society Tour), the 15-acre town common, and a very lovely cemetary, and some great commercial buildings on Main Street. I told one of the organizers about Whitby Gothic Weekend and the Eccentrik Festival this year, and she liked the idea of possibly making a Tarboro Steampunk Weekend and hosting the Eccentrik Festival (though, I'm not sure that would work, but it was very flattering). So, who knows what may happen with the town of Tarboro? | | Thursday, July 10th, 2008 | | 8:38 am |

And now for something slightly different... Tonight @ 12am is 'The Clockwork Cabaret' on WCOM 103.5 LP-FM Carrboro/Chapel Hill, NC. But, before that I will be deejaying from 10pm to 12am as a substitute for 'The Present Day Composer', I'm not quite sure what I'll be playing, perhaps, a bunch of the strange foreign music that I own or maybe it'll be a salute to Tom Waits, a combination of the two, or perhaps Emmett will have hijacked the transmitter early and will regale everyone with more steamy goodness, who knows? Heck, I probably won't even know until I get there, cuz I'm silly like that. | | Monday, June 16th, 2008 | | 3:50 pm |

Only makes sense if you read Terry Pratchett... So, I read the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, and one of my favorite group of characters are the Igors. Well, I stumbled across this movie trailer... http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/igor/igor-tlr1_h.640.movAnd, it reminded me of the storyline of how there came to be an Igor in the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. | | Friday, May 16th, 2008 | | 11:55 am |
The Clockwork Ball on May 31st has moved... Due to a booking error with HELL, we have had to move The Clockwork Ball to a different venue. But, I think the new place will work much better as it has trains, can be 18+, and is already pretty "steampunk-y" so requires very little decorating on our part.

This Friday - BOWIE vs PRINCE @ Milltown Prince and associated artists go toe-to-toe on the dance floor against David Bowie - this is the ultimate dance party! DJ's mix album cuts, remixes, rare tracks and classics from their extensive music collections to battle it out on the turntables. This face-off always promises to be a dance marathon - "I Wanna Be Your Lover" takes a swing at "John I'm Only Dancing," only to be pounded by "China Girl," which had better watch it's back when "Kiss" comes around. This event is presented by Forgotten Sister Productions who have successfully produced parties in the Triangle for four years. "As a concept for a DJ battle, David Bowie vs Prince is brilliant," writes DJ Mouse, one of the deejays spinning the event, "These two musicians are not only so prolific, but guaranteed to keep people dancing all night long." This dance party event features music from Prince, David Bowie, The Time, Tin Machine, Klaus Nomi, Spiders from Mars, Vanity 6 and many more. Who will win, The Purple One or the Man who fell to Earth? Who cares... this is the perfect night out to lounge with your friends, make some new friends, get your drink on, dance your @ss off and celebrate the music of both these musical icons. Featuring DJs Fifi Hi-Fi, Mephi and Mouse. Music @ 10:30pm Dressing up is highly encouraged Admission: All Ages, $5 Milltown 307 East Main Street Carrboro, NC for more information: http://www.myspace.com/retro_a_gogo | | 10:47 am |
